The Fundamentals
- Cold process: Preserves oil properties without additional cooking.
- Safety first: Gloves and goggles are mandatory. Lye (NaOH) is highly corrosive.
- Absolute precision: All your measurements (water, oils, lye) must be weighed in grams.
- Superfatting: A safety margin of unsaponified oils to nourish the skin (usually 5 to 8%).
- Curing: A minimum resting time of 4 weeks for water to evaporate and pH to mellow.
⚠️ Reminder: Always pour lye into water, and NEVER the reverse, to avoid dangerous splashes.
